Day 2 of 30: It’s Thrifty Thursday! Plastic bags are problematic. They can be a serious form of litter. They’re hard to recycle. They’re disposable. And they’re everywhere! Plastic bags commonly found in stores are some of the most common forms of single use plastic and a huge contributor to plastic pollution around the world. Before using disposable plastic bags: REDUCE by investing in a reusable bag instead (or just use a backpack!) REUSE plastic bags you have for other things (like holding litter or other trash) RECYCLE plastic bags only in correct facilities Here are a few things you can do to UPCYCLE plastic bags you might (definitely) have lying around: Make a reusable bag: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX3okZUjYD4 Make plarn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLCAiWBUNg4 Make a reusable bag out of plarn: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2sYI-WPuyD0 For more information on single use plastics check out EarthDay.org Show us what you've made or your favorite reusable bag that you use for your groceries.

Today is day 1 of the 30 Days for the Earth! We’re going to be sharing helpful tips, and resources to help you reduce your impact on the Earth and climate action. Minor changes to everyday actions can help contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle, reduce waste, and can help you save money on your bills by being more energy efficient. This opportunity to be at home could be the perfect time to reflect on our daily lives and how we interact with each other and our surroundings. Throughout the month we’ll share resources on ideas, actions, crafts, information, and community resources to help you celebrate Earth Day. Today we’re asking you to look at opportunities taking place through the Ashland County and the City of Ashland's rain barrel sale. Rain barrels are a great way of storing runoff from your roof. Stored water can be used in a variety of ways around the house, including: watering your lawn and plants, or washing your car. Compost bins are also available, and can help you reduce your waste. Instead of tossing food scraps in the trash you can use that material to make rich soil to use in the yard. Both of these items are offered at a reduced price and perfect for getting your place on the road to sustainable living. Look for more tips and resources that we'll share throughout the month. Feel free to share your ideas with us and make sure to follow our facebook page and keep checking this site for all of our updates. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day! We still want to celebrate, if only online. Celebrate with us everyday this month and especially on Earth Day, April 22! Please like, follow, share, and interact with us!
